This training equips individuals to serve as first aiders in workplaces, particularly where a low-risk environment has been identified according to the Health & Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, Appendix 6 Content of an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course.

This course is essentially the first day and first unit of the three-day First Aid at Work course. It also incorporates specific training suited to educational settings, enhancing the standard Emergency First Aid at Work curriculum with paediatric considerations.

Course Details

Course Outline:

  • Role of the first aider
  • Prevention of cross infection
  • Recording incidents and actions
  • Equipment handling
  • Emergency situation assessment and response
  • CPR and AED usage
  • First aid for various conditions:
    • Unconsciousness, including seizure management
    • Choking
    • Injuries and bleeding
    • Shock
    • Minor injuries (cuts, grazes, burns, scalds, splinters)

Additional Paediatric First Aid

  • CPR for children
  • Managing asthma and anaphylaxis
  • First aid for choking in children

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive the Emergency First Aid at Work Including Paediatric Element certificate, valid for three years.

Accreditation

This course is accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB), aligned with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Suggested Progression:

  • Recommended annual refresher training
